Prepare for Your Grade 5 Music Theory Exam

The All-In-One Grade 5 Music Theory Revision Booklet provides additional practice for students preparing for ABRSM Grade 5 or Trinity College London Grade 5 Music Theory examinations.

It contains varied Grade 5 exercises to help students consolidate what they have learned, practise applying their knowledge and build confidence before their exam.

Which All-In-One Book Do I Need?

If you are learning music theory from beginner level to Grade 5, use the All-In-One to Grade 5 Music Theory Book.

Alternatively, you can use All-In-One: Grades 1–3 followed by All-In-One: Grades 4–5.

If you have already learned the theory and want additional Grade 5 practice and revision, this booklet can be used alongside your main workbook, particularly as you approach your exam.

What’s Included?

The booklet is divided into four main sections:

Notation

Practice covering key Grade 5 notation concepts and exam topics.

Time

Exercises covering time signatures, rhythm, grouping of notes and related topics.

Tonality

Practice with scales, key signatures, intervals, chords and other tonal concepts.

General Musicianship

Questions designed to bring different areas of music theory together and develop broader musical understanding.

The exercises use a variety of question styles and terminology, helping students become familiar with the type of questions they may encounter in music theory examinations.

ABRSM and Trinity Checklists

The booklet includes graded checklists for ABRSM and Trinity, allowing students to check the topics relevant to their examination and identify areas for further revision.

Additional Trinity College London Content

The final Appendix contains additional material specifically relevant to Trinity students, including:

  • Pentatonic Scales

  • Broken Chords
  • Diminished Supertonic Chords
  • SATB Chord Writing

Have Your Work Marked by the Author

There is currently no separate answer book for the Revision Booklet. However, Rachel Billings, author of the All-In-One Music Theory books, offers a marking service for completed Grade 5 Revision Booklets.

Your work can be checked and marked with personalised feedback, helping you identify mistakes and areas that may need further revision.

This can be particularly useful for independent learners and students without regular access to a music theory teacher.
